COVID-19 Visitor Guidelines

Thriftwood School & College are asking for the support and understanding of our visitors in helping us minimise the risk of COVID-19.

Thriftwood continues to take guidance from Public Health England. Taking this into account, we are now limiting access to the site to essential visitors only.

If your visit to Thriftwood is an essential one, we would nevertheless ask that you refrain from visiting if:

Along with all members of the Thriftwood community, any visitors to the School or College should wash their hands with soap and water before leaving home and once they arrive on site. Gel hand sanitiser will also be available on arrival and throughout your visit. You will need to wear a face covering throughout your visit to our school.

For the avoidance of potential embarrassment, we would also like to advise you that Thriftwood is currently operating a ‘no handshake’ policy for all members of its community.

We apologise for not being able to give you our usual warm welcome, but we must take the current situation very seriously and look after the welfare of our pupils and staff.

If you have any questions, please contact the member of staff you were due to visit.

Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic education (PSHCEe) at Thriftwood Academy

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2020 – please see the document – ‘Understanding Relationships, Sex and Health Education at your child’s secondary school: a guide for parents’ for the changes that mean RSE and Health are now statutory parts of the PSHCEe curriculum

Central to all we do at Thriftwood is PSHCEe. The skills and information our children learn in these sessions are really ‘lessons for life’. PSHCEe’s mission is to enable all our children to have the skills, information and self-confidence to live their lives to the full whatever their needs.

I have started a list of helpful (and reliable) websites on this page, but it is not exhaustive. Please let me know if you need information or advice on topics that these websites do not cover.

I am a trained teacher with a specialism in Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and am a member of the Insights Group of the PSHE Association. The Association is the national association for PSHE and provides training and support for PSHE teachers, undertakes research and commissions for other organisations and lobbies the Government on behalf of PSHE.

If you have any issues or worries, please don't hesitate to contact me.
